The Department of Computer Science at The University of South Dakota invites applications and nominations for the position of Department Chair and Associate or Full Professor with tenure. The Department seeks a strong and dynamic leader with a clear vision for the computer science program in the context of a liberal arts education. The next chair will be asked to support the development and understanding of the Digital Liberal Arts, and to explore collaborative opportunities with other programs in the college and across the university to build on this vision of graduates who are prepared to make an impact on an increasingly digital society.

The chair will be responsible for providing leadership for the department, representing the department’s interests in the College of Arts and Sciences, recruiting faculty and students, developing a schedule of course offerings, managing the fiscal resources of the department, evaluating faculty, and driving program development.

Candidates are expected to have a PhD in computer science, or a closely related field, a strong commitment to excellence in education at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and an ongoing program of research in computer science. Administrative experience is preferred, although all applications will be considered. Salary is commensurate with rank and experience.

The Department of Computer Science offers BA, BS and MS degrees in Computer Science, and in cooperation with the Beacom School of Business and Eagle Creek Software offers an IT Consultant Academy designed to produce graduates ready to step into a career in IT consulting. USD also hosts a centralized High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster consisting of 744 processing cores, 45 (4-128GB/node) compute nodes, and 70 TB of shared storage.
