Ayers Island, LLC
Ayers Island, LLC was founded in 1999 to develop a training, research, and commercialization facility on Ayers Island, a 60-acre island located about 2 miles from the University of Maine campus. Ayers Island has served as a training venue for homeland security. It has twice been used by the National Guard’s Maine Civil Support Team as a training site and for training exercises by local firefighters, police, Community Emergency Response Teams, and as a local search and rescue group. Ayers Island, LLC was a subcontractor for two Operation Safe Commerce contracts.
Ayers Island, LLC has hosted a modern art show, has attracted movie and video companies to the island, and was the site for two episodes of a cable TV show. It has also been used for storage by various companies and organizations. Ayers Island, LLC has also won a number of grants to help with its redevelopment effort.
